LG has designed a bendable smartphone you wear on your wrist

Believe it or not, there was once a time where smartphone belonged in the realms of science fiction. But while they're getting more powerful all the time, their designs aren't radically changing.

Still, a few companies are experimenting in interesting ways, and LG has just patented a smartphone which folds up into a bracelet that you can wear on your wrist.

We suspect such a device is a long way off becoming a reality. For one thing, LG's patent reveals little about how such a thing would actually work, which suggests LG is in the very early stages of developing it.

There are certainly a lot of hurdles to overcome. The current crop of curved phones are at most only slightly flexible, while this requires a fully roll-able screen and it's not just the screen that would need to be flexible, some of the phones internals likely would as well.

Even when it does become possible, we're not entirely sure it's a good idea. If smart watches take off then surely everyone will have one by then, and if not it seems unlikely that people would be very open to wearing a phone on their wrist.

Still, we like innovation and we're intrigued to see if the idea plays out. Though LG isn't the only one with this idea, as a very similar patent was filed by Samsung not so long ago.

Samsung is also experimenting with curved screens so it makes sense that the two companies would arrive at similar ideas. The next - and more difficult - challenge is convincing us to wear them.

BlackBerry Leap jumps into the UK

BlackBerry Leap jumps into the UK, tries to act a bit trendy

The BlackBerry Leap is now available for pre-order in the UK for £199 SIM-free, targeting 'young power professionals' rather then general consumers.

In terms of specs the Leap is similar to the first ever BlackBerry 10 device, the Z10, with a 5-inch HD display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD slot, 8MP rear camera and 2MP front snapper.

The battery has been given a boost in the Leap, up from 1800mAh in the Z10 to 2800mAh here, although it does miss out on NFC.

Hop, step and a jump

It's the BlackBerry 10.3.1 operating system which is the main talking point, with a heavy business focus that makes it clear this device isn't one for the teenagers on the street.

The Leap joins the BlackBerry Classic and BlackBerry Passport in the Canadian firm's revitalised line up and devices will land in hands from April 24.

The LG G4's snapper could be a beast

We've previously heard the LG G4's camera could be seriously impressive, but we've now got more details that shed light on just how much of an improvement the included snapper will be over its predecessor, the LG G3, thanks in part to a huge six-layer lens.

The LG G4 will be able to capture 80% more light than the G3, thanks to a large lens module that is double the size of the one found in LG's previous flagship handset.

If that isn't impressive enough, the lens – which is apparently going to be built entirely in-house by LG Innotek – will feature a six-element feature that will offer high-precision, large-diameter shots.

Life through a lens

According to the report LG Innotek has also included an ultra-thin 0.1mm glass blue filter, which will prevent infrared emissions from entering the lens. This will keep the colours in images looking as realistic as possible.

The LG G4's camera will be 16MP with a wide f/1.8 aperture, so it should be excellent at taking photos in low light conditions.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 release date, news and rumors

Slim, stylish and very powerful. The Tab S2 has the iPad in its sights.

The iPad Air 2 is still at the top of the tablets, but Samsung came very close to knocking it off its perch with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S - a slim and powerful slate with a stunning screen and good battery life.

Now we're hearing rumblings of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and if rumors are to be believed it could be an even closer iPad Air 2 competitor, with a slim build, a metal frame, a 4:3 aspect ratio and both 8.0-inch and 9.7-inch size options, making it a clear alternative to both the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3.

There's no real world on when we might see Samsung's next super slate, but the original Galaxy Tab S launched in late June 2014, so there's a chance we'll see the Galaxy Tab S2 sometime around then as well, especially as rumors are starting to leak out.

Tab S2 will run Android 5.0.2 out of the box, if not the even more recent Android version.

As for storage, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is rumored to come with 32GB built in, but with a microSD card slot allowing for cards of up to 128GB.

One other titbit of information supplied by Sam Mobile is that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will apparently support Cat. 6 LTE, theoretically allowing for download speeds of up to 300Mbps on 4G. Though the 4G version of the slate is likely to be an optional variant with a higher price tag.
